Reading the Stories in the Snow
Our tracking programs begin after the first snow has fallen. The snow provides the ultimate tracking environment for following animal prints through the forest. It is common to find paw prints from moose, deer, coyote, rabbit, mice, squirrels, turkeys and much more. We’ll wandering the forests and frozen lakes and marshes and identifying these tracks.
A day in the forest always holds a surprise. Perhaps it is finding an exciting animal print in the snow. Maybe it will be your lucky day to see an eagle, moose, deer, fox or coyote. Or maybe you’ll find a bobcat track. Every time it snows the slate is wiped clean and a new story unfolds on the snow.
Modern clothing makes staying warm and dry easy and light weight. In the years past, the winter travelers were burdened with wool and animal hides. Their clothing alone could weigh up to 25 pounds.
Maine Bound Guides offer winter trips ranging from one day explorations to multi day expeditions.
