Allagash Wilderness Waterway Canoe Trip
The Allagash Wilderness Waterway consists of a series of lakes and rivers that are interconnected by dams and moderate white water sections. The first part of the waterway is primarily lakes and the latter part of the waterway is the Allagash River itself. There are established wilderness campsites all along the way.
Some rapids will need to be negotiated. Chase Rapids is the most strenuous section and is a nine mile stretch of class II whitewater. This section may be avoided by using the local ranger service. Other sections of the river have portages of varying lengths. To participate in this trip you’ll need to be moderately physically fit. Canoe and camping experience is helpful, but not necessary.
We will spend time learning canoeing and expedition skills, water safety, leave no trace principles, camp cooking and much more. We will also have time for daily activities including personal time, story telling wildlife watching and picture taking. We will eat and camp well. Your Guide, River Lee, has been teaching outdoor skills and leading expeditions since 1995.
We offer three options, a fourteen day trip of the entire Allagash Wilderness Waterway, a seven day trip in the lakes section and a seven day trip on the river sections.
