Brownfield Bog...Favorite Wetlands

The Brownfield Bog is a pristine sanctuary with a symphony of wildlife.  We’ll explore the waterways of this wilderness by canoe or kayak.  Eagles, ducks, beaver and muskrats are commonly seen.  The air is filled with the calls and songs of the birds.   The water is teeming with plant life, frogs, fish, turtles and the water based mammals.  On the fringes of the bog are ancient trees with root systems like claws that dig down into the water.  Climbing into the cradle of these trees and standing above the bog water is like entering another universe.

The Brownfield Bog is best visited in the early spring when the water is high and before the the bugs have not hatched in force.  The high water allows travel over areas that are normally the forest floor.  This is the only possible time to paddle between the Brownfield Bog, the Saco River and the many small lakes and ponds in the area.
